Alumni Update: Kathleen Casamiquela

Published on Tuesday, April 6, 2021

We recently caught up with one of our very first residency program graduates, Kathleen Casamiquela, who sent us the following note and photos as she reflected back over her time here and what has happened since leaving us:

After medical school in Texas and an internship in Arizona, my future husband Grant and I were excited to continue the adventure at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. Being a part of the first dermatology residency class and having the opportunity to help shape and develop the program was an honor. The friendliness and warmth of the people of Jackson, Mississippi, are second to none.

After residency we returned to my hometown and I am currently working at California Coastal Dermatology in private practice. The UMMC residency program prepared me to meet the medical, cosmetic, and surgical needs of my patients, who range in age from a few weeks old to more than 90 years old.

Grant and I married in Maui, Hawaii, in 2017 and we welcomed our first child, Logan, in May 2020.  I have been fortunate to travel with my husband to Rome, Greece, Spain, France, Switzerland, and Croatia. I enjoy spending time with family and friends, hiking, sailing, and riding bikes at the beach.
